Overview BROW-RAISERS EDITION II fully incorporates the NEW
words of 2006 “Brow-Raisers is a brilliantly organized study guide geared towards the success of beginning and intermediate players.” - Joshua Kassel, Director of Tucson SCRABBLE® club #565 about Edition I. Edition II has 264 pages of word power and has excellent material for those striving towards the expert level. The early chapters help folks to incrementally master all of the two, three, four, and five letter words and to get a good start on the Sixes. Later chapters help folks to greatly increase their bingo vocabulary. In early chapters, Rasch eschews long alphabetical lists and instead breaks shorter words into bite size chunks. Strange words are presented in a number of formats that are designed to eliminate noise and to help greatly with memory and retention. Chapter 7 helps folks to master the bingos most likely to show up on their racks. Cecil Lavoie, a novice, became bingo champ of Ottawa SCRABBLE® club #495. She did so by studying the bingo section a little every day. She sent Tony a note saying, “Pretty good for someone who didn’t even know what a bingo was a year ago.” Chapter 9 is something new that should greatly help those striving towards expert status. In one place, it lists all of the short verbs that can be declined to form “ED” or “ING” bingos and it divides them between those that can also take “ERS” and those that can’t. It has a section that groups all adjectives that can be declined to form “ER” or “EST” bingos. It covers all seven and eight letter words that have other common endings such as “IES”, “INGS”, “LIKE”, or “MAN”. It has a common prefix section that places in one place the root words that can form “OUT”, “RE”, or “UN” bingos. Many people will find “rough definitions” sections intriguing. These sections exist for the Brow-Raising Twos, Threes, and Fours in the book. A section on the Fives is downloadable from this website. Summary
Brow-Raisers Edition II presents lists of key SCRABBLE® words in a variety of formats that makes memorization and retention relatively painless. It will help any player short of expert to move up to the next level. Experts will find it to be a fine reference book for the approximately 20,000 bingos that have common prefixes or endings.
